The Basics of a Pouch Packaging Machine
Pouch packaging machines help in the hygienic packaging of food products such as snacks, condiments, pet foods, and ready-to-eat meals. They can also pack bags with resealable zippers and spouts.
The pouches are fed into the machine where they pass through various static machine’stations’. These include bag feed, detection, opening and detecting, deflation, filling, heat sealing and cutting.
Film Pulling System
The pouch packaging machine includes a film transport system and a pull-film device that allows for faster packaging. This system is especially helpful for packing liquid products like olive oil, soup, milk, honey, ketchup, and handwashing fluid.
The film is delivered in rollstocks and is 1st pulled into the system using servo motors. It then passes by the printer for date and production batch code printing. Then, the film moves to bag forming.
It overlaps the edges of the film to shape a pouch and then seals the top and bottom. The sealed pouch then drops down onto a conveyor belt. The system also includes a control cabinet.
Film Forming Tube
The film transport system unwinds the film, tensions it and aligns it. It then passes through the forming tube to convert it from flat film into a bag. When the film crests the collar of the forming tube, it is formed into a circular shape and two outer edges are overlapped to create a lap seal or fin seal.
Nitrogen can be introduced into the forming tube to reduce oxygen levels for products such as nuts and chips that degrade in air. A product catcher can also be added for light density products that tend to ‘string out’ as they drop into the jaws of the sealing machine.
Registration Photo-Eye
A VFFS machine’s film registration photo-eye uses the printed registration marks to control the positioning of film as it travels over a forming tube. This ensures the sealing jaws pouch packaging machine close on a correct position each time the machine runs.
Determining the Registration Mark Detection Window
The registration photo-eye needs to be ‘trained’ for each roll of film. This involves adjusting the photo-eye sensor lens to line up with the registration marks on the film.
Performing a test cycle after making these adjustments will ensure the registration mark detection window is correctly adjusted. This is important to achieve consistent, high-quality packaging results. It also helps prevent costly production errors and downtime.
Film Tracking Sensors
The film tracking sensors of a VFFS machine are responsible for the proper alignment of the printed text and design on your product’s bags. They must be properly positioned to ensure accurate readings of the registration marks, and should be correctly adjusted in the sensor settings menu.
VFFS pouch machines can be used to create both premade and form fill seal pouches. They are designed to work fast, and can package a high number of products per minute. They are easy to use and clean, and require a low maintenance cost. This packaging method is ideal for liquids, granules, powders, and foods. It also helps prolong product shelf life.
Filling Station
The filling station of a pouch packaging machine uses a syringe-like device to inject your product into the bag. This ensures that your product is properly packaged and sealed. The machine can also print codes and dates on the bags, making it a great choice for companies looking to automate their production process.
This type of machine is usually used to package premade pouches. However, it can be configured with a number of different accessories to achieve different processes. For example, it can be equipped with a zipper opening For pouch packaging machine manufacturers device or a nitrogen flush to reduce headspace. It can also be configured to add a top spout for liquid and paste products.
Heat Sealing Station
Pouch packaging machines seal the bag shut, using heat or an adhesive. This ensures that the package is air-tight, waterproof, and durable enough to protect the product inside. The machine also has a labeler that prints labels with important information like the product name, weight, and expiration date.
This type of machine is ideal for liquid, semi-liquid, and certain dry products. It can even handle pouches with specialized features, such as child-resistant closures or easy-open tear notches. It is capable of operating at speeds up to 1900 packages per minute. The model can be configured to work with 3 or 4 side sealed, Doyen gusset, and terminated gusset side pouches, as well as pouches with reclosable zipper, Velcro or eSlider.

Pouch packaging machine for packing powder, granules, liquid and other irregular solidity materials into premade pouches. Equipped with piston filler as dosing system, it is widely used for packing detergent, shampoo, shower gel, milk powder and other non-food items. This type of machine can also emboss product information on the pouch.
Conveyor Belt
Pouch packaging is a unique and growing trend in the flexible packaging industry. It provides a number of benefits for both the product and the environment, and it’s important to understand how it works in order to choose the right machine for your business.
A pouch packing machine starts with a large roll of film, shapes it into a bag shape, fills it with your product, and seals the edge of the bag. Then, the pouches are transported to a conveyor belt where they can be sent to downline equipment like check weighers, x-ray machines, or carton packing equipment. They are also cooled and deflated at this point to strengthen the seal and remove any remaining air.
