Drainage and Protection Composites
A prefabricated drainage and protection composite that combines a formed core with a geotextile fabric bonded to both sides. This allows separation and filtration functions to be fulfilled while providing drainage.
Drainage composites offer many benefits over French drains. They can be installed in narrow trenches, no stone is required, and they can perform as an effective drain while protecting the waterproofing membrane.
HYDRODUCT(r) 660
Designed for green roof applications, this drainage composite collects water and transports it to drainage outlets. It consists of a heavy duty, studded polypropylene preformed membrane covered with a nonwoven needle punched geotextile and high strength backing film.
The nonwoven geotextile maintains permeability while protecting the composite from job site damage prior to, and during, installation of the overburden. It also enhances waterproofing by draining 17 gallons per minute per foot of width.
HYDRODUCT(r) 660 is placed over the composite drainage material waterproofing membrane and secured to the underlying structure with PREPRUFE(r) Detail Tape in a shingle-like configuration. The taped areas should be protected against sunlight and motor vehicles, and additional ballast consideration is required in high wind exposures. It is compatible with all GCP waterproofing membranes and concrete.
HYDRODUCT(r) 200
Hydroduct 220 is a drainage composite that shields the growth medium from water and root penetration. It also collects and deflects unwanted groundwater, making it a practical choice for green roofs. Its drainage core is surrounded by high-performance geotextile, which collects and transports water. It’s ideal for foundation walls, retaining walls, bridge abutments, tunnels and earth-sheltered structures. This product is compatible with all Bituthene waterproofing membranes in vertical applications.
These prefabricated geocomposites are effective alternatives to traditional perimeter aggregate drain tiles when used on basement walls that have been waterproofed with Bituthene membranes and Servipak protection boards. They feature a studded polystyrene drainage core covered by a layer of polypropylene filter fabric, which prevents soil particles from entering the drainage core. They’re lightweight and easy to install, making them a cost-effective option for underground construction. They’re also rot-proof and resistant to creep under long-term loading. HYDRODUCT 200 drains 17 gallons per minute and reduces hydrostatic pressure on basement walls.
MacDrain(tm) W
Drainage composites are used to replace aggregate-based drainage systems within construction projects. They are made up of a drainage core layer laminated between geotextiles and can also provide filtering, separation or protection functions. The drainage core is often a mat, net or moulded element and can be inserted into various types of geotextiles.
Maccaferri’s drainage composites are designed to meet the needs of particular applications and scenarios. As such, they are available in specialized product families including MacDrain W for planar installations and roofing, MacDrain N for high flow rate applications and MacDrain TD for road/trackside drainage trenches.
The products under analysis are manufactured at the Officine Maccaferri plant in Slovakia. This EPD is based on a single reference product representing the most produced variant at this location for the reference year. This is in line with the principle that a single EPD should cover all the variants of a product family produced at one plant. This is in order to facilitate a quicker and easier approval process. This is in contrast to other EPDs where separate products for each variant are submitted for approval.
MacDrain(tm) M
Drainage composites are designed to replace traditional gravel-based drainage systems within construction. They can reduce the cost and time of site work by minimizing the need for specialised labour and installation tools. They also have the added benefit of eliminating the need to transport and dispose of aggregates.
Maccaferri drainage geocomposites consist of a plastic draining core thermally bonded to a filtering non-woven geotextile, on one side or if required a waterproof membrane can be placed on the other side. They provide a main function of drainage and may perform other functions such as separation and protection.
The drainage composites in the MacDrain family are specifically engineered to withstand high compression loads. They are available in a variety of sizes and flow rates to suit specific project requirements. In addition, the products are tailored for particular applications such as civil engineering, planar installations, roofs or landfill projects. By designing the product families to match these applications, Maccaferri aims to offer an optimal solution for every project.
MacDrain(tm) N
Drainage composites replace traditional aggregate or gravel based drainage systems within construction. They are manufactured by associating a drainage core layer (a mat, net or moulded element) to one or more geotextile layers that provide filtering, separation and protection functions. The primary function of these drainage geocomposites is the drainage Plastic Dimple Drainage Board one and knowledge of their long term drainage performance is therefore important, i.e. compressive creep flowrate variations, filter efficiency etc.
Maccaferri’s range of prefabricated drainage geocomposites consist of a plastic three-dimensional drainage core thermally bonded to a filtering non-woven or waterproofing geotextile on one side or a water proof membrane on both sides. This allows for the removal of aggregate and the reduction or elimination of the need for concrete, soil and other materials to be moved between a site and construction.
In addition, the drainage geocomposites are designed to withstand high compression loads so that they do not collapse and become blocked. They also allow for easier installation, requiring only the use of ordinary building adhesives and tools such as a hammer or cutter.
